Super Duty A-Pillar Gauge Preparation
Click on any image for a larger version.

I set up a little "paint booth" in my garage since it's been pouring rain here lately.
There was so much humidity in the air that I had to use this desk lamp to aid the drying process.
I used Plasti-kote's Vinyl Color to paint the pod as it was received black.
The color I used is classified as 419 BUCKSKIN. It's actually a little lighter than the factory A-pillar, but I don't really care that much. I'm in a time crunch and need to get this going ASAP!
Final coat. Let the curing begin!
After everything had finished drying, I set up a little work area in the breakfast area so that I could work on preparing the gauge pod and listen to the TV in the background. I tend to work better if I have disctractions such as TV or radio going in the background. Must come from all those years of building models in the wee hours of the morning with the headphones on and crankin'!
First off, I wanted to daisy chain all of the lights together. To do this, I connected the lights that came with the gauges to some spare wire that I had leftover from another project. I used a cap to a spray can to hold the wires together so that I could solder them.
Here's the first light in the chain all soldered up and ready for heat shrink.
After putting on the heat shrink.
I went about 7-8 inches down the wire and marked the insulation in order to make an even cut on both wires.
I used an Xacto knife to make a precise cut.
The wire is cut and ready to attach the next light.
Here's how I went about attaching the lights further down the wire.
A close-up of my solder job...
Second light is now permanently connected.
The completed wiring harness. The red marks that you see on the butcher paper were my visual reference so that the lights would be evenly spaced.
Making the connections to the Pyrometer
Ok, so I got ambitious and finished the connections to the other gauges without taking pictures of them... You'll just have to use your imagination.

The completed pod, ready to install.
I'll wait until tomorrow to cut the holes in the factory A-pillar to make way for all the wires.
Stay tuned for more updates!
